Justice Precinct Needed in South West Sydney

A multi-purpose justice precinct is needed to meet demand in South West Sydney, says

the Western Sydney Business Chamber.

Backing the call from the Law Society of NSW to establish a justice precinct in the region,

David Borger, Executive Director of the Western Sydney Business Chamber, said, “Justice

precincts should be in areas that are accessible to everyone.

“Residents living in the South West of Sydney are forced to travel long distances to have

their cases heard. With the region experiencing a faster population growth than the rest of

Sydney, it makes good sense for a law precinct to be based there – close to where people

live.

“The courts in Sydney’s South West are out-dated and not properly equipped to manage

community demand. Court users are travelling to courts in Wollongong, Parramatta or the

Sydney CBD to resolve family disputes. This is just unacceptable,” Mr Borger said.

“The Chamber is calling on government to establish a state-of-the-art and well-resourced

justice precinct so everyone has access to the court system,” he said.

The We Support South-Western Sydney Justice Precinct campaign is supported by the

Macarthur Regional Law Society, Liverpool Fairfield Regional Law Society, NSW Bar

Association, Campbelltown City Council, Liverpool City Council, Camden Council,

Wollondilly Shire Council, Western Sydney Business Connect, Western Sydney Business

Chamber, NSW Police Association, Camden Region Economic Taskforce, NCOSS,

Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (WDVCAS) and the Greater Sydney

Commission.
